dead men don't walk

this is a photograph i took a few months back inside the portland shanghai tunnels.. i was told they were found while the tunnels were being excavated. they believe them to be the boots of men who were smuggled into the tunnels to be sold as slaves. see, they would take their boots away and lock them into cells until it was time to bring them out to the boats. in case anyone escaped, the floors were covered with broken glass.. trails of blood do make a person rather easy to follow, no?

Have you ever been to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C.? They have this one exhibit with a big picture of piles of shoes that belonged to the victims. Pictures of shoes can be very powerful. Especially when they come with a story.
